Frequently Asked Questions
How far in advance should I book a photoshoot?
For weddings, I book up about 9-12 months ahead of time. Summer weekends book up the fastest. I usually have more wiggle room for last minute bookings during off season (October-April). Portrait sessions can usually be booked within a month of your inquiry depending on the time of year. I typically schedule sessions on weekdays in the morning or at sunset for the best light.Sometimes I have cancellations and clients who need to reschedule, and there are slow times in the year when I'm not booked out as far.
How many photos do you deliver for an event?
More than you're expecting and more than you'll know what to do with I promise! I focus on creating quality images that thoroughly tell the story in front of me on your wedding day. My goal is to be comprehensive, to get all the good stuff, without being overwhelming. That said, I generally deliver around 600+ polished images for an event.
What is your approach and photographic style.
I'll tell you what, take a look at my work and you tell me. I like to keep things fun, light hearted, and honest, which never fails to result in genuine images that represent who you are. The most important thing is that we're creating authentic images that are real, vulnerable, and encompass all the wonderful quirks that make you, YOU. Occasionally, I'll give direction and do a bit of finessing to otherwise candid moments, but the end result will always feel natural. It's not about you doing things my way, I like to get to know you as a person and adapt how I shoot to what you respond well to and what you're comfortable with. Everyone is different and deserves to have their own unique experience.
Do you photograph LGBTQIA events?
Yes, yes, and more yes! Amelia is an LGBTQIA ally. Love is love, my friend. Gay, Lesbian, Transgender, Bisexual, Same-Sex, Gender Binary, Non-gender conforming, and Queer weddings and folx are always welcome and supported by Amelia Coyne Photography.
Do you provide hair and make-up styling?
It depends, for many photoshoot sessions, it was can purchased as an add-on. we do! Call me to discuss what you’re looking for, and if I can't provide what you're looking for I’ll point you in the right direction.
Do you travel for weddings, elopements, and other sessions?
All the time! I'm down to follow you guys wherever your adventure awaits. Better yet, if you need help on deciding on where to get hitched or take your honeymoon, or plan your next family vacation, make sure to check out my Travel Journal for some inspiration!
What are your favorite locations to photograph at?
So many places, too many to name. Click here to see a map of locations I love to shoot at.
How much time does a photoshoot take?
It depends! What kind of shoot are you doing? My headshot sessions last about an hour, my family and portrait sessions last 2-3 hours, and team headshots go quickly – typically somewhere between 5-20 minutes per person, but that all depends on what services I'm providing for your team.
Do you shot alone? Do we need a second photographer?
I only suggest a second photographer if your wedding is going to have more than 100 guests or multiple locations where I can't be in two places at the same time. Though my hands-down choice for a super power would be to fly, the ability to be in two places is definitely in my top 5. I shoot most weddings by myself and am totally comfortable running the show on my own. I'm always rockin' my little fanny pack of emergency goodies to cover those unexpected 'uh-oh' moments, and my Gallery Management/Event Planning experience has laid a good foundation of tools and techniques, so don't worry, I've got your back. Having said that, there are definitely times where having a second photographer is helpful. So if that's something you're interested in let me know!
What happens if I need to reschedule?
No worries. I ask that you do everything possible to keep your appointment since we are often booked weeks in advance. Of course, we understand that things happen, and sometimes a reschedule is the only option. It’s ok!
We will always work with you to find a solution. Please let me know as soon as possible. I permit 2 reschedules
(for personal reasons) before another retainer fee is required to hold a session date. Mother nature always gets
a pass, and will never require an additional retainer fee.
What is your cancellation policy?
I recommend trying to keep your appointment since I am often booked weeks in advanced, and will always recommend rescheduling over cancelling, as all retainer fees are non refundable.
I permit 2 reschedules (for personal reasons) before another retainer fee is required to hold a session date.
The park I want to go to requires a permit. Who pays?
Any additional permits or fees required by the venue, park, public space or local jurisdiction will be the responsibility of the Client. Any violation fees incurred will be the Client’s responsibility.
Do you shot on the weekends?
Yes, I'm available for Saturday and Sunday sessions. I recommend booking weekend sessions as soon as you can because they fill up the fastest.
Do you have insurance and back-up gear?
Absolutely, liability and personal, as well as I've got backup gear for days.
Do you need a shot list?
I do ask for a shot list for your family photos at the wedding, so we make sure no one is forgotten. My recommendation is to keep the list relatively brief. Beyond that, though, I prefer not to work off a list. Your events is a series of dynamic moments, not a static checklist. Unless there's something that I wouldn't be expecting to happen at all, don't worry about a checklist... I've got it covered!
What should I wear for my photoshoot?
This is a big question with lots of possible answers! If you’re booking a custom portrait session, we’ll cover clothing choices in detail during your consultation. If you’re doing a headshot mini or team photos for your company, we have some basic suggestions that work well. Once you're booked, I'll send over a pdf guide on how to prepare for your wedding or session. Above all, you should wear something you feel good in. If you’re feeling comfortable and confident, you’re going to look your best – so go ahead and break the “rules!”
Do You deliver every photo you take?
Nope! My shooting style involves taking a lot of photos so that I can capture those fast and fleeting moments.
This leaves me with a lot of in-between shots that I cull through and chose the best images to edit and deliver.
Do you deliver RAWS?
No. RAW images are not a true representation of my work and have not seen the copious amounts of tender loving care I put into every image to make them awesome. Trust me, you want the finished, edited result, that's half of why you hired me in the first place!
How soon will I get my pictures?
I typically have a 8-12 week turnaround time for wedding photos depending on the time of year and 4 week turnaround for all other sessions. Trust me, I'm JUST as excited to see your final images as you are!
Do you edit every photo I receive?
Yes, all images included color corrected, cropped, and edited to my liking.
Additional artistic and master art retouching (image manipulation) can be purchased as an add-on.
How do you make such amazing photos?
I'm so happy you asked... I feel strongly that your investment in me is a sign that you want, and expect, something unique, meaningful, and yes, cool. You should know that creating something outstanding is super (super) important to me. Making that happen requires both of us to put in effort and personal investment. The best images are a result of a good collaboration. It really is a team effort. You bring the love and emotion and style and happiness, and yourselves; and I'll bring the cameras and the vision. It'll be good.
How do we receive our photos?
Your beautiful, high-resolution digital photos are uploaded to an online gallery. Your photos are hosted for one year and the gallery has convenient options such as making photos private, creating favorites, direct and easy connection to her professional printing lab. You have the option to download individual files or the entire gallery in just one click.
What are my payment options and are there payment plans?
Cash or Credit Card. I require a non refundable retainer to reserve your session at time of booking, with the remaining due two weeks before the date. I accept payment plans and will asses on a per case basis. I want to be accessible to everyone regardless of their financial situation. Please explain what would work best for you, and I’ll
do my best to work with you.
If you're a local non-profit or start-up without a budget for photography, check out my Events | Community page for info on entering for 1-of-4 yearly complimentary full sessions.
Do you offer custom packages?
Absolutely! If you don't see what you're looking for, we can create a custom package that fits your needs and budget.
Does it cost extra to add people to a photoshoot?
Probably not! As long as we can all fit in the space, you’re welcome to bring in the whole family for your session
at no extra charge.
What happens if I don't like my photos?
It’s my job to make sure you look great in your photos, and I take that assignment seriously! I will put all of my tools to work in order to make sure you look your best in your photos. I offer a satisfaction guarantee, so if you put your trust in me, I promise to give you photos you can feel proud of. If we’ve tried and tried again, and after all of that effort, you’re still not happy with your photos, I will give you a full refund, minus retainer fee.
Do you provide a print and distribution license?
Yep. You will receive a license that provides you with unlimited rights to use the digital photos you purchased for your own business or personal purposes.
If you share them on Facebook or Instagram, I’d love for you to credit Amelia Coyne Photography.
Do I get the copyrights to the photos?
Copyright is a tricky subject. You will receive a license that provides you with unlimited rights to use the digital photos you purchased for your own business or personal purposes. You will also have the option to provide –
or withhold – permission for Amelia Coyne Photography to show your photos to other people in our portfolio
and marketing. That means we won’t use your photos in our materials if you select this option.
However, the copyright of the images will always remain with Amelia Coyne Photography, which means you will not be permitted to sell the photos to others, claim credit or ownership, or grant permission for their use in any projects other than the ones you hired Amelia Coyne Photography to do.
Give me a call with any questions – I'm happy to discuss it!
What have previous clients said about Amelia?
Hands down, Amelia’s past couples have loved working with her, and have written in length about how happy they are. Here are a few highlights from her reviews:

“I highly recommend working with Amelia as she was professional, very easy to work with, and took many amazing, once-in-a-lifetime, photos we’ll treasure for the rest of our lives!”
“She was very accepting and sweet, and someone who I felt very comfortable having at our small intimate ceremony. I highly recommend Amelia.”
“Look — there are probably a dozen other photographers you’re considering, but they’re not Amelia. It’s not just the photos that last a lifetime, it’s also how that person treats your difficult aunty, your drunk friends, or whatever it is in your family. With Amelia, we got both fabulous photos and someone who felt like family. You really can’t beat that.”
